
Kunaal Roy Kapur is an Indian actor and writer known for his versatile performances in both comedy and drama. He is part of the renowned Kapur family, with his brother Siddharth Roy Kapur being a prominent producer. Kunaal made his acting debut in 2003 with the film Mumbai Meri Jaan. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Kunaal Roy Kapur shares and anecdote on his green flag role in Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani, “I mean I don’t know…. matlab we didn’t set out with any paint and any flag to paint it green and say ki bhai ‘Taran yaha pe green flag’ aisa kuch nahi tha, we just created a character and now in retrospect people are calling him a green flag, which is true, he’s a guy who’s very giving very accepting, he puts himself out there, puts his woman he loves before himself. All of those things we cherish, joh bohot important cheeze hai.”
When asked about green flag guys in real life don’t exist he said, “Nahi, hai yaar aise log, hote hai. So I don’t know, I’m sorry we created that image of a perfect guy, not entirely perfect, kind of perfect but, yeah… its good that we have such characters out there, that people do see the good qualities of and I’m happy that after the whole journey the film’s been through, that character’s got that little do.”
When asked about Bobby Deol being the inital choice as Tarun in YJHD, he said, “I can’t imagine Bobby in that role honestly, I mean it might have worked but, in a different way. “
When asked about his characters looking a certain way Kunal said, “What are you saying, I’m much better looking that Bobby. No you’re insulting my looks also.”
When congratulated on the re-release of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani he said, “Thank you thank you, I have got a whole new generation of people who are now seeing it on screen and sending messages and the term green flag is coming around, 10 years later it’ll be some other definition of that character but, it’s lovely to have that again. I’ve had people send me videos from Pondicherry and all they’re dancing to the songs.“
